After being cast in the role of Stella Kidd in early 2016, Miranda Rae Mayo has officially been bumped up to a series regular on NBC’s Chicago Fire, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Mayo was first cast on the show back in January, according to Deadline. Her character, Stella Kidd, first appeared in episode 15 of season four, where it was revealed she had past history with Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). Stella was a replacement firefighter as the new candidate at the firehouse, Jimmy Borelli (Steven R. McQueen), became a paramedic since Chili (Dora Madison) was fired because of her behavior.
Since becoming a cast member, some of Mayo’s storylines on the show include her character becoming a new worker at Molly’s, the bar where the firefighters, paramedics, police officers and doctors and nurses from the various Chicago shows hang out after their shifts (and maybe now that Chicago Justice is happening, the prosecutors will also hang out at Molly’s as well). She’s also developed a relationship with Severide, which her ex-husband, Grant (Guy Burnet), isn’t too thrilled about.
In the season four finale, Stella finally starts to cut ties with Grant. She answers a phone call from him and finds out he’s overdosing and the paramedics take him to the hospital, where he tells Dr. Charles (from Chicago Med) that he wants to change and wants to go to rehab. When Dr. Charles goes to check on him, he discovers that Grant left the hospital. In the final scene of the finale, Stella and Severide are back at her apartment after a fellow firefighter’s funeral. As they go to bed, the camera pans over to Stella’s phone, showing that she’s missing a call from Dr. Charles and that a knife is missing. The camera then pans over to a chair, where Grant is sitting with the missing knife in his hand.
Hopefully, since Mayo is now a series regular and Severide is a fan favorite character, nothing too bad will happen for either of them.
Relive the last moments of the finale with this video clip. The scene with Stella and Severide starts at 3:19, but if you want some Gabby Dawson and Matt Casey fluff, watch the video in its entirety.
Other roles of Mayo’s include Talia Sandoval, a love interest of Emily Fields on Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars, a recurring role on Days of our Lives and a role on ABC’s short lived show, Blood and Oil.
Season five of Chicago Fire will be broadcast on Tuesday nights a 10 p.m., though a premiere date has yet to be announced.
