Miramax Has Secured TV Rights To ‘Halloween’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miramax has just secured the television rights of Halloween and will start developing a series based on the Michael Myers horror films. They have made a deal with right holders Trancas International Films that will cover not only a television series but also related projects for international markets and, potentially, a linked Michael Myers Cinematic Universe from television to film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miramax produced the 2018-2022 Halloween trilogy directed by David Gordon Green (The Exorcist: Believer) with Trancas and Blumhouse Productions. Miramax has also been behind five of the 13 films in the franchise.

Marc Helwig (Lost in Space), head of global television at Miramax said, “We couldn’t be more excited to bring Halloween to television. We are thrilled to expand our long and successful partnership with Trancas and the brilliant Malek Akkad (The Messenger) in introducing this iconic franchise to a new form of storytelling and a new generation of fans.”

Trancas head Akkad added, “Trancas International Films is extremely enthused to be expanding our long-standing relationship with Miramax, and we look forward to working with Marc Helwig and the entire team in creating this new chapter.”

The Halloween franchise follows the story of Michael Myers and his many victims. The first film in the franchise aired on October 25, 1978, and since then the story has spanned 13 films. The synopsis for the origin story of many of the films of the franchise reads as follows, ‘’On a cold Halloween night in 1963, six-year-old Michael Myers brutally murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith. He was sentenced and locked away for 15 years. But on October 30, 1978, while being transferred for a court date, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and escapes Smith’s Grove. He returns to his quiet hometown of Haddonfield, Illinois, where he looks for his next victims.’’
