Alan Kim (Minari) has broken on to the celebrity scene at only eight years old. Now, after Zooming into award shows, the young actor is making his next career move into television, where, according to TVLine, he will star as a young version of Nora’s father, Wally, in Comedy Central’s Awkwafina is Nora From Queens.
Kim will be seen in flashbacks during the second season of the show, where Wally’s childhood will be explored. In the show’s present day timeline, Wally is played by cast member BD Wong (Jurassic Park), via TVLine.
The star went viral earlier this year for his emotional reaction to winning a Critic’s Choice Award for his performance in Minari. Dressed to the nines in his tuxedo, the young actor burst into tears upon winning the award for Best Young Actor/Actress, stealing the hearts of everyone watching. Kim began pinching his cheeks during his acceptance speech to check if he was dreaming.
Additionally, Kim became the youngest actor in history to be nominated for a BAFTA award when he received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance, via TVLine. Kim’s win and nomination contribute to the massive critical success Minari has received in the current award season and during the past film festival cycle. According to TVLine, the film has received eight Oscar Nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role for Stephen Yuen (The Walking Dead), Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Score, amongst several others. The film additionally won a Golden Globe for best Foreign Language Film, and has received three SAG Award nominations including Best Cast in a Motion Picture.
Awkwafina is Nora From Queens is currently in the midst of production. According to TVLine, the second season of the series is filming in New York. Comedy Central has yet to announced a premiere date for the second season.
