Mike Colter’s ‘Luke Cage’ Has Been Cancelled by Netflix

Luke Cage has been cancelled by Netflix due to creative differences. As fans waited on a confirmation for season three, Netflix made the decision to end the show while it was doing so well. This news comes as a disappointment after Iron Fist had met a similar conclusion last week. Meanwhile, Daredevil was made available for streaming on October 19.

“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season,” Marvel and the streaming service said on Friday. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

Drafts of the script were written out for the first half of season three and were sent to executives this week. However, there was no agreement on how to proceed with the story for this season as there were creative differences. In September, with discussions of a possible 13 episode season instead of 10, Marvel and Netflix waited idly by for word on whether they could continue writing their scripts and brainstorming ideas to move forward with the series.

There was a strong sense of Luke Cage coming back as Mike Colter was still in contract to return. Fans were left surprised by the sudden cancellation.

Luke Cage showrunner tweeted his gratitude on all of the support the show had for the last couple of seasons.

Mike Colter shared an Instagram post thanking Marvel and Disney for allowing him to play such a memorable character that many could relate to.

Luke Cage was a popular show among fans. It was a Netflix original that the streaming service was experimenting with during its earlier days of providing their own content. As their other shows became a hit, Luke Cage was struggling a bit to keep up. With its loyal fan base and the series’ legacy, it will definitely be missed. This is not the end of our hero’s story.
