Michael Strahan Debuts as Co-Host on ‘Good Morning America’

After an almost four month-long absence, Michael Strahan and his infectious gap-toothed smile have returned full-time to daytime television, with Strahan making his debut as a co-host on ABC’s Good Morning America this morning. Entertainment Weekly had the story.

Strahan joined co-hosts George Stephanopolous and Robin Roberts at the morning desk. Stephanopolous and Roberts gave the former football player a warm welcome, with Roberts saying “It is great to have you full-time with us”.

Strahan joined ABC’s line-up in 2012, when he replaced Regis Philbin as a co-host on Live!, working alongside Kelly Ripa. Then, in April of 2016, ABC announced that Strahan would be leaving Live! to co-host Good Morning America. This announcement blindsided Ripa, who apparently had not been notified about Strahan’s departure. However, Ripa addressed the issue on the show, and ABC apologized to the Live! host. Strahan officially left Live! May 13th, 2016.

Since leaving Live!, Strahan has made several appearances on Good Morning America as a guest host, sometimes even appearing multiple times a week. However, today marks his full-time debut as a co-anchor.

Good Morning America airs Monday to Friday at 7 a.m. on ABC.
