According to Variety, Lionsgate’s Starz and Amazon’s MGM+ will be joining forces soon through new 20% discounted bundle for U.S Amazon Prime Members. This bundle is being issued in the hopes of acquiring more subs through the platform.
Variety reports the new bundle is part of a long-term deal between Starz and Amazon. The new bundle will launch in the U.S. on Prime Video in the upcoming weeks. According to Starz, the new bundle will be priced at $11.99 per month. This will be a 20% discount on the combined price of both subscriptions since Starz alone is $8.99 per month and MGM+ is $5.99 per month and will be available to Prime members. Starz and MGM+ have joined forces due to the ongoing fights in the streaming market.
Starz President Alison Hoffman (Significant Other) said, “We are excited to join forces with Amazon to offer Starz together with MGM+ to their millions of customers on Prime Video. Starz is a complementary service to general entertainment offerings, so we’re thrilled to see that bundling is now here and believe there will be many more bundling opportunities to come.”
According to Variety, Starz lost 1.1 million domestic subscribers in the last three months of 2022. This included a decline of 700,000 streaming subs and 400,000 linear subs. Lionsgate has said it plans to spin off its television and film production and studio company from Starz which it had acquired for $4.4 billion back in 2016.
MGM+ originals include Godfather of Harlem, Billy the Kid, A Spy Among Friends, War of the Worlds, Rouge Heroes, Belgravia, Laurel Canyon, Murf the Surf, Helter Skelter, Slow Burn, My Life as Rolling Stone, and Blumhouse’s Compendium of Horror. Starz’s original series include Outlander, Power, P-Valley, Party Down, and BlindSpotting.
The new bundle will include all of these series and films alongside the Amazon Prime subscription.
