It seems like Netflix will be exploring the coast of Mexico for treasure. According to Deadline, Netflix has decided to move ahead and produce the thriller series Bandidos. The show will be the latest series to be Netflix’s biggest bet out of Mexico since it shot the popular drug drama Narcos: Mexico which ended in 2021.
According to Deadline, the show is set to premiere in 2024. It will consist of eight episodes and be shot in Spanish. The title of the show translates in English to Bandits and will star Alfonso Dosal (Narcos: Mexico, Here on Earth) as Miguel and Ester Expósito (Élite, Venus) as Lilí.
Other cast members of the show include Juan Pablo Medina (The House of Flowers, Enfermo Amor), Mabel Cadena (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Dive), Nicolás Furtado (El Marginal, Somos Familia), Andrés Baida (Control Z, Who Killed Sara?), Andrea Chaparro (Rebelde, The House of Flowers: The Movie), Juan Pablo Fuentes (All the Places, Cecilia), and Bruno Bichir (Narcos, Corazonada), among others.
The thriller show will follow Miguel and his accomplice Lilí, who are attempting to retrieve a treasure from an underwater shipwreck of a Spanish galleon that sank during the War of Independence on the Atlantic coast of Mexico. The pair must ask for the assistance of a group of bandits to accomplish the underwater heist but they later find out they are not the only ones after the forgotten treasure.
According to Deadline, Pablo Tébar (Serve and Protect, Tierra de Lobos) will be the showrunner and will also serve as writer for the show which, according to Deadline sources, will feature a massive underwater heist. Adrian Grunberg (Luis Miguel: The Series, The Black Demon), known for directing Rambo: Last Blood and Get the Gringo, will serve as the director of the show.
Bandidos will be executive produced by Stacy Perskie (The Mosquito Coast, Narcos: Mexico), Mark Holder (The Circus, Lullaby), Christine Holder (East New York, Crawlspace), Andrew Wilson (Crawlspace, Lottery Ticket), and Grunberg. Perskie will be producing alongside Wonder Street and Redrum which will be co-producers.
Bandidos is set to premiere sometime in 2024 on Netflix. Narcos and Narcos: Mexico are available to stream on Netflix.
