MCU’s ‘Werewolf by Night’ is One of the Most Popular Marvel Releases for Disney+

According to Comicbook, the new Halloween special from Disney+ and Marvel Werewolf by Night has become one the most watched releases for the platform. The special has become a hit with fans and critics alike.

Initially, the special received a rare 100-percent perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, now it has a 92-percent score which means it is “Certified Fresh.” The Audience Score, reviews collected from non-critic fans who have seen the project, for Werewolf is one of the highest scores for a Marvel Cinematic Universe project ever.

The Halloween special has a 93-percent Fresh Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, which means that 93 percent of the thousands of Marvel fans that have seen Werewolf by Night have taken the time to leave positive reviews about the special. These results place Werewolf as Disney’s fourth most popular Marvel project, tied with the animated series What If…?

Among the projects released before Werewolf by Night, the most popular Marvel Cinematic Universe movie or TV show, according to the Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, is a tie for first and second place between Spider-Man: No Way Home and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which have a nearly perfect score of 98-percent. Spider-Man: Far From Home has a 95 percent score landing it in the third-place slot.

The fans are already asking for a sequel to the special. Brian Gay (Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok), a co-executive producer of the special, told Comicbook that the idea for Werewolf was that it was going to be a one-and-off special. A TV movie that didn’t require any connections with other Marvel shows or films to succeed. The Werewolf special had been in the producer’s mind for some time and had discussions with other producers as to how to introduce the character into the MCU. Disney+ gave Gay and the other producers the freedom to choose the format for the project, and after remembering classic specials made for TV like Charlie Brown’s Christmas or Frosty the Snowman, they concluded that Werewolf would work best as a TV movie Halloween special.

Werewolf by Night follows Jack Russell played by famous Mexican actor Gael García Bernal (Station Eleven, Coco), a lycanthrope superhero who got his powers due to a curse on his bloodline. The Halloween special is available to watch now on Disney+.
