The witches will be back. AMC just announced that their hit series Mayfair Witches has been renewed for a second season, according to Deadline. The series is part of the extended Anne Rice (Ramses the Damned, The Wolf Gift) universe alongside Interview with Vampire. Both shows have become hit series for the streaming service AMC+.
According to Deadline, the renewal comes after slew of recent cancellations at AMC Networks. Shows like Demascus and Invitation to Bonfire alongside second seasons for Pantheon, Moonhaven, and 61st Street have been axed from the network as part of a major cost-cutting drive.
Mayfair Witches is based on the book series by Rice and focuses on Rowan Fielding, an intuitive young neurosurgeon who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she wraps her head around her new powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.
The show stars Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Baywatch) as Rowan; Tongayi Chirisa (Another Life, The Anthrax Attacks) plays Ciprien Grieve; Jack Huston (House of Gucci, Fargo) stars as Lasher; Harry Hamlin (Clash of the Titans, 80 for Brady) who is playing Cortland Mayfair; and Beth Grant (Amsterdam, Dollface) as Carlotta.
AMC Studios produces the show and showrunner Esta Spalding (Party of Five, On Becoming a God in Central Florida) executive produces alongside Michelle Ashford (Cat Person, Masters of Sex), Michael Uppendahl (Candy, American Crime Story), Jeff Freilich (61st Street, Lodge 49), and Mark Johnson (Interview with the Vampire, Better Call Saul).
The first season consisted of eight episodes and premiered in January 2023. AMC has said that based on the number of people that watched the show in the thirty days since its premiere, Mayfair Witches is delivering the most-viewed season of any series ever on AMC+. The show has surpassed Interview with the Vampire and the final season of the hit series The Walking Dead.
According to Deadline, season two’s production is set to be later this year in New Orleans. There were also plans to put together crossover with Interview with a Vampire, as revealed by Johnson in a recent interview. However, this comes after the slew of cancellations the network went through. So, at the moment, the crossover might not happen any time soon.
Mayfair Witches season two has no release date but will start production this year. Season one of Witches is available to stream on AMC+.
