Max Renews Medical Drama ‘The Pitt’ For A Second Season

According to Variety, Max has renewed medical drama The Pitt for a second season. The series aired on the streamer back in January with its final episode scheduled to air on April 10 with new episodes premiering every Thursdays until then.

“It’s been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room,” said Sarah Aubrey (Battleship), head of Max Original Programming. “Our collaboration with John Wells (The Company Men), R. Scott Gemmill (The Unit), Noah Wyle (Donnie Darko) and Warner Bros. Television has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and we are excited to continue down this path with another season.”

The Pitt is a medical that follows the lives of doctors and nurses at a trauma hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

As per Variety, the official logline for the series reads as follows: “Each episode follows an hour of Dr. Robby’s (Wyle) 15-hour shift as the chief attendant in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room.”

The series cast includes Noah Wyle (Falling Skies), Tracey Ifeachor (Treason), Patrick Ball (Cheerleader), Kwatherine LaNasa (The Campaign), Supriya Ganesh (Nothing and Everything), Fiona Dourif (Living with Chucky), Taylor Dearden (The Last Champion), Isa Briones (Brown Soup Thing), Gerran Howell (The Song of Names), and Shabana Azeez (In Limbo).

“We’re excited and delighted with the audience response for our first season of  The Pitt and can’t be more appreciative of our partners at Max and Warner Bros Television for all of their extraordinary support throughout our first season,” said Gemmill, Wells, and Wyle in a joint statement.

According to Variety, the renewal for the series is a surprise as the series is subject to an ongoing lawsuit as the estate of Michael Crichton (The Lost World) is currently in a legal battle with Warner Bros. It is being claimed that the series is a nauthorized reboot of  ER, which Crichton created and on which Wells, Wyle, and Gemmill all worked.
