Following the announcement of the main cast earlier this year, Marvel Entertainment has released the first look of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur in a new teaser trailer. The animated series executive produced by Laurence Fishburne (Ant-Man and the Wasp, Blackish) will premiere in February 2022 on The Disney Channel. Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur began as a comic in November of 2015. The series was the brainchild of writers Brandon Montlcare (Halloween Eve, Fearsome Four) and Amy Reeder (Amethyst, Fool’s Gold) along with artist Natacha Bustos (Going Howhere). Created as a sequel to the Jack Kirby (Thor, Fantastic Four) original, Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur, Moon Girl follows a nine-year-old Black girl, Lunella Lafayette. As a kid genius, Lunella’s intelligence makes her the smartest being in the Marvel Universe. But she finds herself often ostracized because of how smart she is. One day Lunella accidentally transfers Devil Dinosaur to New York City through a time vortex gone awry. Soon the two become a crime-stopping duo as it is discovered Moon Girl, an Inhuman, and Devil Dinosaur share a mental link.
The new series has a wonderful cast starring Diamond White (The Bold and the Beautiful, A Madea Family Reunion) as Lunella, and veteran voice actor, Fred Tatasciore (Hit-Monkey, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness) as Devil Dinosaur. They are joined by Sasheer Zamata (The Weekend, Saturday Night Live) and Jermaine Fowler (Superior Donuts, Judas and the Black Messiah) who will play Lunella’s parents. Marvel’s Luke Cage actress, Alfre Woodard, has been cast as Lunella’s grandmother, with Gary Anthony Williams (The Boondocks, Undercover Brother) playing her grandfather. The series also stars Libe Barer (Sneaky Pete, I See You) as Lunella’s best friend, Casey, and Fishburne himself will recur as The Beyonder.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur concluded its comic run as of November 2019, with a total of 47 issues. Some of Moon Girl’s titular adventures included teaming up with the Fantastic Four in a two-part crossover. She also battled epic threats alongside Daisy Johnson aka Quake in the Secret Empire series.
