Disney+ revealed the new title and premiere date for Marvel Studios’ WandaVision spinoff series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kathryn Hahn (This Much I Know Is True, Tiny Beautiful Things) will reprise her role as witch Agatha Harkness in Agatha All Along. The series is set to premiere on September 18.
Originally planned for winter 2023, the writer’s strike-delayed series was first announced in 2021, via The Hollywood Reporter. At the time, it was listed as Marvel’s Agatha: House of Harkness before shedding its title for Agatha: Coven of Chaos at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022. A year later, the series was remixed as Darkhold Diaries, referencing the powerful book of spells that Agatha hid in her possession. Today, Agatha All Along will follow the escapades of Hahn’s charismatic succubus, who disguised herself as Agnes, Wanda’s nosey neighbor and ally inside Westview’s alternate reality. Agatha’s true intentions were eventually revealed as she coveted Wanda’s, aka the Scarlet Witch, chaos magic. The series concluded with Agatha trapped as Agnes inside the real town.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hahn will be joined by a colorful coven that includes Joe Locke (Heartstopper) and Patti LuPone (American Horror Story, Beau Is Afraid). Other cast members listed are Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live, The Weekend), Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus, Legion) and WandaVision alums Debra Jo Rupp (The 90s Show, Better With You) and Emma Caulfield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Timer). Rupp and Caulfield both played citizens who became prisoners of Wanda’s twisted reality. It would be fair to assume they will be reprising their roles as Ms. Hart/Sharon Davis and Dottie/Sarah Proctor, respectively.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jac Schaeffer (The Hustle, Black Widow) returns as head writer and executive producer, the same role she served in WandaVision.
While plot details remain unknown, LuPone revealed some information about her character and others in a 2023 Entertainment Weekly interview. According to Lupone, she’s playing an elderly Sicilian witch named Lilia Calderu. Locke and Plaza will be playing witches as well, but could be foils to Agatha.
All will be revealed on September 18 when Agatha All Along makes its two-episode premiere only on Disney+.
