Created by Marion Dayre (Better Call Saul, The Act), Echo is a five-episode television series a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series is set to premiere on January 9th, 2024. In anticipation of its debut, an official behind-the-scenes trailer has been released.
In the behind-the-scenes trailer, which can be viewed below, various snippets of scenes are shown along with interviews from director and executive producer Sydney Freeland (Drunktown’s Finest, Hoverboard), executive producer Richie Palmer (Avengers: Endgame, Guardians of the Galaxy), Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Daredevil) who plays Kingpin, and Alaqua Cox (Hawkeye) who plays the main character Maya Lopez, also known as Echo.
In the trailer, Freeland describes Echo‘s title character, stating, “Maya Lopez is one of the most interesting characters in the MCU. She’s badass, and she’s also deaf.”
She later explained, “We wanted to toe the line: ‘is Maya good or bad?’ I’m excited for audiences to see how real this show is.”
They also spoke to Echo’s connection with Kingpin. Cox stated in sign language, “Maya learned everything she did from Kingpin.”
Palmer continued, “He taught her violence and fear”
D’Onofrio talked about the series as a whole, teasing, “Echo is more towards a grounded series… It’s intense, man.”
Echo will premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu, and, as The Hollywood Reporter noted in November, it will be the first series created by Marvel Studios to have TV-MA rating.
In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, the cast of Echo includes Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs, Backspot) as Bonnie, Chaske Spencer (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Shouting Secrets) as Henry, Tantoo Cardinal (Falls Around Her, Killers of the Flower Moon) as Chula, Charlie Cox (Daredevil, The Defenders) as Matt Murdock, Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds, Reservation Dogs) as William Lopez, Cody Lightning (Four Sheets to the Wind, Smoke Signals) as Cousin Biscuits, and many more.
