As fans anticipate the final two episodes of WandaVision, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige (producer, Avengers: Endgame) revealed a second season for the show is not currently in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Feige is focused on keeping other Marvel shows created for Disney+ open for expansion beyond a first season but is unsure of whether or not the same will be true for WandaVision.
WandaVision is Marvel’s first Disney+ television series and is intended to tie-in directly to the Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Due to the highly connected nature of the two projects, Feige stated that he wouldn’t give a definitive answer regarding the show’s future at this point.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Feige noted the difference between planning the forward path of the film side of the MCU versus the newer television space. “When we start with movie, we hope there is a part two, we hope there is part three, but we aren’t factoring that into the part 1,” he stated. Continuing, Feige stated, “Some of the shows that I mentioned that we are about to start filming, we are keeping in mind a structure that would lead into a season two or a season three in a more direct way compared to a show like WandaVision that goes into a feature.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
Feige is currently in Atlanta, Georgia, overseeing the production of some of the other Marvel shows which seek to follow the success of WandaVision. Ms. Marvel is close to wrapping up filming, and in just a few weeks, production on She-Hulk will begin, with Moon Knight following after that, via The Hollywood Reporter.
All of these shows are expected to land on Disney+ after the already scheduled shows finish airing on the streaming platform. In just under a month, Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be released on Disney+ on March 19, and Loki will begin streaming on June 11. Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and What If…? are set to fill out Marvel Studio’s episodic storytelling slate on Disney+ for the foreseeable future. The release dates for the upcoming projects have yet to be announced but one thing is for sure: Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to.
