Marvel Studios Executive Gives A Comment For A Possible Animated Universe After ‘X-Men ‘97’

According to ScreenRant, executives at Marvel Studios have commented on the chances of shared animated universe after the conclusion of the animated series X-Men ’97’s first season. With the series concluding its first season, many have wondered if the show will be further included in the ever-expanding MCU alongside other animated series.

ScreenRant, notes that in an exclusive interview with Marvel Studios’ Head of TV, Streaming and Animation, Brad Winderbaum (What If…?, Loki) , discussed the conclusion of the animated series. The ending of the final episode featured numerous cameos of other Marvel superheroes and villains. Due to this Winderbaum was asked if this could be a new beginning to a Marvel Animated Cinematic Universe.

As per Screenrant, Winderbaum said “Well, I think to me, X-Men ’97 is the window into the 90s and into that universe. We can see how much that window expands over time perhaps. But there is a value to focusing on that era because it unlocks you from any other show. You get to explore this universe from this one perspective, which is basically what every episode of What If…? does to a certain degree. But those are one-and-done ones, an anthology, this is actually a universe that gets to exist for multiple seasons, which is one of the things most exciting about it.”

X-Men ’97 leaves off from the popular 90’s show, X-Men: The Animated Series, which was adapted from the Marvel comic of the same name. Created by Beau DeMayo (The Witcher, Moon Knight) the series shows many known mutants in a whole new animated setting. The series has shocked many fans with its ten-episode season which has greenlit them for a second with a possible third following after.

The first season of X-Men ’97 is available to stream on Disney+ along with many other Marvel films and series.
