According to Deadline, various Marvel series premiering on Disney+ will now be released later than anticipated. This is due to few reasons, such as the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. In addition to the strikes, Deadline notes that Marvel Studios wants to spread out the release of their shows for the sake of viewership.
As noted by Deadline, the second season of What If…? was set to premiere earlier this year, but it will now premiere in December. This animated series is created by A. C. Bradley (Arrow, Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia) and reimagines various events and timelines in the Marvel universe.
According to Deadline, other Marvel series that were expected to premiere in 2023 will now have premiere dates for 2024.
One of these series is Echo. Instead of debuting in November of this year, the release date has been changed to January. Echo is a Hawkeye spinoff series created by Marion Dayre (The Act, Better Call Saul). The series stars Alaqua Cox (Hawkeye, Marvel Studios: Assembled) as Echo/Maya Lopez, Zahn McClarnon (Strike One, Doctor Sleep) as William Lopez, and more.
Similarly, the X-Men ’97 was set to premiere this fall but will instead premiere in early 2024. X-Men ’97 is an upcoming animated series created by Beau DeMayo (The Witcher, Moon Knight).
Formerly known as Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries was originally expected to be released late this year. However, the series will now debut in the early fall of 2024. Created by Jac Schaeffer (WandaVision, Black Widow), this WandaVision spinoff stars Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision, Tiny Beautiful Things) as Agatha Harkness, Joe Locke (Heartstopper) as Wiccan, and more.
One series that will be keeping its release date is the second season of Loki. Created by Michael Waldron (Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Loki will still be released on October 6th. The series stars Tom Hiddleston (Crimson Peak, Thor) as Loki, Sophia Di Martino (Flowers, Yesterday) as Sylvie, Owen Wilson (Zoolander, Marley & Me) as Mobius, and more.
