Marvel Entertainment released a trailer teasing their upcoming series Agatha All Along, starring Kathryn Hahn (Transparent, Free Agents) as the charismatic, power-hungry witch who stole the show in Disney+’s WandaVision. According to mxdwn, Agatha All Along is set to debut September 18, with the trailer confirming a two-episode premiere to ramp up for the Halloween season.
While the series was first announced back in 2021, production delays caused by the May 2023 writers strike prevented the series from releasing on its original schedule via mxdwn. As the series was in development for a few years, the series title has evolved from Agatha: House of Harkness to Agatha: Coven of Chaos to Darkhold Dairies before finally settling on Agatha All Along, referencing the catchy melody which played once Agatha’s true identity was revealed.
According to mxdwn, the spinoff will follow events in the aftermath of WandaVision, where, spoilers ahead, Agatha “disguised herself as Agnes, Wanda’s nosey neighbor and ally inside Westview’s alternate reality.” Eventually, “Agatha’s true intentions were eventually revealed as she coveted Wanda’s, aka the Scarlet Witch, chaos magic, [concluding the series] with Agatha trapped as Agnes inside the real town.”
Brad Winderbaum (Ant-Man, Thor: Ragnarok), head of streaming, television and animation at Marvel Studios, previously revealed via mxdwn that Agatha All Along would have a scary tone. In the newly released trailer, that scary tone is quickly established as the opening shot shows a worn-out Agnes driving through the woods, pulling up to her job as a detective to help solve a murder case.
Agnes looks on as a body is revealed on the ground, cutting to her visiting the same body at a mortuary. Hahn narrates that something seems off about the case and herself. She looks at a blank library card with random dates attached to the body, and suddenly, “W. Maximoff” appears in red next to October 13th. In disbelief, she looks up as another woman detective stands in the room, played by Aubrey Plaza (White Lotus, Parks and Recreation), and tells her, “Is this really how you see yourself? That witch is gone, leaving you trapped in her distorted spell. Claw your way out.” Suddenly, Agnes phases through her different disguises from WandaVision and returns as Agatha.
Clips from the season unfold, showing Agatha trying to regain her power as a witch, with Hahn narrating, “She took every bit of power I had. But I can be that witch again.” This time, Agatha will take on a coven, with Plaza, Patti LuPone (Beau is Afraid, American Horror Story), Joe Locke (Heartstopper, Agatha All Along), Sasheer Zamata (Spree, I Feel Pretty), Debra Jo Rupp (That ‘70s Show, Big) and Emma Caulfield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, WandaVision) flashing as her onscreen posse.
A montage of flying, levitating, velvet costumes, spell casting and everything witches flashes before ending with a scare. A possessed person bends backward, crawling toward Locke’s character as the group humorously tries to communicate with them.
Agatha All Along will be available to watch exclusively on Disney+ on September 18.
