According to Deadline, Marvel renews Wonder Man for second season on Disney+. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Matrix Resurrections) will return as Simon Williams, and Ben Kingsley (The Thursday Muder Club, Shutter Island) is back as Trevor Slattery. Returning with them are series co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton (The Glass Castle, Spider-Man: Brand New Day) and Andrew Guest (Community, Brooklyn Nine-Nine). Guest returns as showrunner and executive producer, while Cretton returns as director and executive producer.
As per Deadline, Wonder Man was created by writer Stan Lee (Avengers: Endgame, Big Hero 6) and artists Don Heck (Avengers Vs. Thanos, Iron Man: Rise of Technovore) and Jack Kirby (The Hunger Dogs, In the Days of the Mob) as it as introduced to Marvel Comics in 1964 via The Avengers #9. The Disney+ series logline is as follows: “aspiring actor Simon Williams, who is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns that legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film, Wonder Man. These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry”
According to Deadline, the series aired with strong rating as the first season holds 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The series is among one of the only Live-action Marvel series to return for a second season. Disney+ has previously aired limited series like WandaVision, Hawkeye, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Moon Knight. The streamer also aired Loki, which was also given a second season to continue the story. Daredevil: Born Again could also be considered a second instalment as it was relaunched from the Marvel-Netflix series Daredevil.
All eight episodes of the first season of Wonder Man are available to stream on Disney+.
