Marvel Rebuffs Former ‘X-Men ’97’ Creator’s Claims Regarding Termination And Alleged Removal Of Season Two Credit

Marvel Studios has issued a strong rebuttal to claims made by former X-Men ’97 creator, Beau DeMayo (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf), regarding his termination before the season one premiere earlier this year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Disney-owned studio alleges DeMayo was let go after an “internal investigation” into alleged misconduct among other staffers.

“Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation, given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel,” the official statement read via THR. The statement was issued following DeMayo’s claim that he was fired for allegedly sharing fanart of X-Men characters to his Instagram profile in celebration of Pride Month.  See DeMayo’s exact statements below from his IG profile.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DeMayo also stated he was stripped of his season two credits due to this post and made similar claims on his Twitter/X profile saying, “Above is #XMen fan-art I posted on Instagram for Gay Pride in June. On June 13, #Marvel sent a letter notifying me that they’d stripped my Season two credits due to the post.” View his Twitter/X post below.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, regardless of the reason behind Demayo’s firing, his effort led the company to obtain their first perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and earned an Emmy for the episode “Remember It.” It was announced at the D23 that Matthew Chauncey (Thor: Love and Thunder) will be at the helm of season three of X-Men 97.
