According to Comicbook, last year Marvel fans were surprised to hear an announcement of an animated series based on Black Panther called Eyes of Wakanda. Recently, more information on the Disney+ series has surfaced as executive producer Brad Winderbaum (What If…?, Loki) spoke about the series while promoting Marvel’s Echo during an interview with Comicbook. Windebaum explained in the interview how the new animated series came to be.
In the interview, Winderbaum said, “It’s a show we’re producing in partnership with Proximity Media, with Ryan Coogler (Creed) as one of our executive producers. The show was brought to us by Todd Harris (Hawkeye), who was a longtime storyboard artist at the company, just like Bryan Andrews (Captain Marvel) was, who is the director of What If…? He pitched the show to Ryan and he pitched the show to Kevin and I, and we were like, ‘Let’s do it.’ I don’t want to say too much about it, only that people do not see it coming.”
According to Comicbook, this is not the first news of a television adaptation of the popular Marvel film. Before the animated series, there were reports on a live-action series called Kingdom of Wakanda. Last year it was hinted by Nate Moore (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) that progress on the series was slow due to all the work being done on Wakanda Forever.
Moore explained to Collider, “Because of the amount of time and attention that went into this film, and frankly the Ironheart show, that is probably not as far along as people want it to be, but there are certainly great ideas that we’re still talking to Ryan about. So, we’ll see how far we can get with it.”
All Marvel Studio films and TV series are available to stream on Disney+.
