Cobra Kai will be returning as a podcast hosted by Martin Kove (The Karate Kid), also known as Sensei John Kreese in the series, according to Deadline. The podcast, entitled Cobra Koves, will feature stories from the original Karate Kid trilogy, and will discuss topics ranging from pop culture, spirituality, mental health, and bullying.
A spinoff of the 1984 Karate Kid film starring Ralph Macchio (Crossroads), Cobra Kai takes place 30 years later with members of the original cast as William Zabka’s (How I Met Your Mother) Johnny Lawrence seeks revenge on his nemesis, Macchio’s (Daniel LaRusso). Kove’s character, once Johnny’s harsh and abusive sensei, made a reappearence in the spinoff’s season one finale after hearing that his dojo was reopened by his former student. In the podcast, Kove will be joined by his two kids, Jesse and Rachel, in recapping episodes of the drama series.
Cobra Kai premiered its fourth season on Netflix at the end of December, and has been renewed for fifth season. Cobra Koves will be released by audio platform PodcastOne on January 20.
“As a Karate Kid fan growing up, and now a Cobra Kai fan, I could not be more excited to welcome the Koves to the PodcastOne family,” said Kit Gray, president of PodcastOne. The stories and insight that Martin, Jesse, and Rachel will capture and charm everyone from television fans to film buffs to listeners looking for a set of dynamic hosts delivering top notch content. We cannot wait to share this podcast with the world.”
