According to Deadline, creator of This Is Us Dan Fogelman (Paradise) is recruiting Mandy Moore (Tangled, A Walk to Remember) to star in his untitled NFL football drama series for Hulu. She has become a series regular, playing opposite William H. Macy (Shameless, Fargo) and Christopher Meloni (Oz, Law & Order).
The story is set within the NFL world, containing a generational family piece that Moore will be part of. She is starring as the daughter of the NFL team owner Hank Durkin (Macy), Lauren. Meloni plays Danny Roarke, the head coach of the team, Deadline states.
The series is executive produced and written by Fogelman, alongside EPs Kevin Falls (The West Wing, This is Us) and Jess Rosenthal (This is Us, Paradise). Other executive producers include Jesse Sisgold (Taurasi, Freediver), David Ellison (Top Gun: Maverick, The Tomorrow War), and Jason T. Reed (Mulan, She Dances) for Skydance sports, which is one of few divisions that remain with the Skydance Sports moniker after the Paramount Global merger. The series is from Skydance Sports and 20th Television, Deadline adds.
This will mark the second new drama series created by Fogelman since This Is Us, which terminated its six-season run in May 2022, and Paradise which premiered in January and is renewed for Season Two. Paradise is a Hulu series via 20th Television, under which Fogelman has an overall deal, Deadline notes. Both stars were members of the Pearson family in This is Us, with Moore playing the mother, Rebecca, and Sterling K. Brown (Waves, American Fiction) portraying one of the sons, Randall. Brown executive produces and headlines Paradise, a series whose first season received four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. This Is Us was a recurring title within this category.
Fogelman created a universe through the use of the same actors in multiple series. Galavant’s Timothy Omundson (Psych, Psych: The Movie) played in This Is Us, as well as This Is Us‘ Griffin Dunne (After Hours, Practical Magic) appearing on Hulu’s Only Murders In the Building, also executive produced by Fogelman, Deadline adds.
Moore earned an Emmy nomination for her role on This Is Us, and she recently finished production on the TriStar feature comedy The Breadwinner alongside Nate Bargatze (The Standups, SNL). This film is directed by Eric Appel (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Field of Dreams 2: Lockout). She also voices in Prime Video’s adult animated comedy series #1 Happy Family USA, which premiered in April, and was created by Pam Brady (Lady Dynamite, Hot Rod) and Ramy Youssef (Ramy, Mountainhead). Moore is repped by Untitled Entertainment, Gersh, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, Deadline finally mentions.
