According to Deadline, Malin Åkerman (Watchmen) will take on the leading role for the show The Hunting Wives. It will be an eight episode series based on a novel of the same name which was written by May Cobb. Production will begin this spring in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Deadline cited that “The Hunting Wives tells the story of Sophie O’Neil and her family’s move from the East Coast to deep East Texas, where she succumbs to socialite Margo’s irresistible charms – and finds her life consumed by obsession, seduction and murder.” This synopsis came straight from the showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Cutter (Hightown).
Deadline went on to say that along with Cutter and Cobb, Erwin Stoff (The Serpent Queen) will executive produce for 3 Arts Entertainment. The series is being produced by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Variety also chimed in, stating that Malin Åkerman will take on the role of Margo Banks, who is a socialite. In addition to her new found role on The Hunting Wives, Åkerman has also starred in Billions, Children’s Hospital, and Dollface. She also has a history with film, as she has been in Watchmen, The Heartbreak Kid, 27 Dresses, and Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle. Åkerman is repped by UTA, Mosaic, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Variety explained that the series was originally ordered at the premiere caliber in October of 2023. Cutter developed the series as well as serving as showrunner and executive producer for The Hunting Wives. Cutter is known for her work on other shows as showrunner such as Hightown which premiered back in 2020, however it will see its third and final season premiere this January.
