Maisie Williams Talks ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8

Game of Thrones’ final season 8 might be premiering later than many fans would hope, but that hasn’t stopped its actors from revealing info along the way. Earlier this month, HBO confirmed that its wildly popular fantasy series would have its final season premiere in 2019, though the network did not confirm an exact date.

Over the weekend, fans of Game of Thrones were abuzz over an interview with Maisie Williams in which she reportedly revealed the season 8 premiere date. While many were excited at the prospect of an official date to expect the final episodes of HBO’s fantasy series, Maisie Williams herself has come forward to set the record straight.

The interview with Williams that was circulating the internet over the weekend included a quote where Williams supposedly claimed that Game of Thrones will “wrap in December and…air our first episode in April [2019].”

While HBO itself offered no statement on the air date, the Game of Thrones actress took to Twitter account to correct the story. With her tweet, Williams stated that the original interview that the faux release date came from was more than a year old. She went on to call the April 2019 premiere date “completely false”.

While specific details on the show’s final season are being kept tightly under wraps by HBO, one thing is for certain: fans can expect big things from season 8. Game of Thrones creators and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have chosen the best filmmakers who have worked on the show before for their final episodes, ensuring that each part of the final season is top-notch.

Directors David Nutter (responsible for some of the show’s most memorable episodes like “Rains of Castamere” and “The Dance of Dragons”) and Miguel Sapochnik ( “Hardhome” and “Battle of the Bastards”) will be directors for the season as well as David Benioff and Dan Weiss themselves.

When asked how she would like her character Arya’s storyline to wrap up, Williams mused, “I’ve always said I wanted her to find peace. The things that have been driving her through her story have been very bitter and twisted and aggressive. I would love for Arya to find her true self again and let go of this anger and revenge that’s accompanied her on this journey. I’d love for her to be happy.” Considering all the events the Starks have gone through, fans would likely agree with Williams.

Game of Thrones returns for its final season in 2019.
