According to a Deadline, Maisie Williams (The New look) revealed the impact that starting in Game of Thrones had on her as a child. Williams plays the character Arya Stark in the series. Williams claimed that because she was cast so young, she felt lost growing up.
Deadline revealed that Williams was cast for the role at the mere age of 12. Williams said, “I was so lost for so long and I knew that I was, and when I couldn’t pin down what I felt my identity was within that, it brought me a lot of discomfort. Now I feel a lot more comfortable in my own skin. It’s hard to even put myself back there and talk about how tough it was just because I think it’s done.”
When Williams received the role of Arya, she managed to beat 300 other contenders. Williams said that she learned from watching her other castmates while on set, said Deadline. She claimed, “Charles Dance was a standout for Game of Thrones. I admired watching him rehearse, and the things that he and the director talked about.”
Currently, Williams is playing Cathrine Dior, the sister of a French designer and a member of the French resistance, in the series The New Look on AppleTV+. Along with this role, Williams also now runs a production company and wants to begin bringing her own content to fruition rather than adaptations from games or products, Deadline said.
Deadline also revealed that Williams expressed the advice that she would give to other child stars who are being cast in their first on-screen roles. She said, “I really dig within myself to try and bring out something that I feel would be really useful. I’ve no idea if I ever have, but I know that at least they could text me or call me.”
