‘Lucifer’ Will Start Filming Season 6 Immediately After Completing Season 5

Netflix has revealed its plans to finish filming their long-running urban fantasy series Lucifer. Screen Rant has reported that Netflix intends to complete filming the fifth season this month and will immediately begin production on the following season.

Lucifer was originally meant to finish filming season 5 back in March. However, production was halted as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. When they left off, there was only one final episode of season 5 to finish before finishing the season. In an interview with Da Man MagazineLucifer star Tom Ellis (Merlin) said that “we were agonizingly close to wrapping but lockdown beat us. So, we still have 60 percent of our season five finale to shoot.” While filming could no longer go on, the crew of Lucifer was able to work on post-production work from home. Therefore, they were able to finish the previous 15 episodes of season 5 even under quarantine restrictions. Netflix decided to split the season in half, with the first eight episodes of season 5 premiered on August 21st.

Currently Netflix intends to resume production on the 16th and final episode on September 24th. While filming for season 6 will begin right after said episode is done filming, it is unknown when the last episode will enter post-production. Netflix has currently not announced when the second half of season 5 will air. In addition, Netflix has not revealed how the rest of the series will be filmed in regards to fulfilling social distancing and quarantine guidelines.

Lucifer is a supernatural crime-drama series following the Prince of Darkness as he runs a nightclub in the City of Angels while becoming a reluctant informant for the LAPD. The series is based on Neil Gaiman’s comic series The Sandman and its spin-off series also titled Lucifer. Originally airing on the Fox network starting in 2016, Lucifer was cancelled after three seasons. Netflix renewed Lucifer in 2018 for an additional three seasons.

The entirety of Lucifer (released so far) is available to stream on Netflix.
