‘LoveCraft Country’: A Misha Green, Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams HBO Series is Coming This August

Misha Green, creator of WGN’s Underground, has created a series whose setting is emulated in the critical times of the Jim Crow Era south.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, LoveCraft is set to premiere on HBO in August. It’s collaborative efforts will include the creative minds of producers Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) and J.J. Abrams (Lost, Star Trek, Star Wars: Episode VII) on its crew, as well as a talented cast. Among the few of the talents that will premiere on the series, Jonathan Majors (The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Captive State) will play the protagonist, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Underground, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey,) his friend in the show.

The cast also includes Elizabeth Debicki (Widows, The Night Manager,) Wunmi Mosaku (Luther, The End of the F*****g World,) Aunjanue Ellis (Men of Horror, The Help,) and Jamie Harris (The Prestige, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.)

The series hubs on the life of Atticus Freeman (Jonathon Majors), his friend, Letita (Jurnee Smollett-Bell,) and his Uncle George who’s played by Courtney B. Vance (Law and Order: Criminal Intent, American Crime Story, Uncorked, The Hunt for Red October, Ben is Back.) After Freeman’s father goes missing (Michael Kenneth Williams:  The Night Of, When They See Us, When We Rise), the trio goes on a journey throughout 1950’s America in hopes of finding his father.

The show based on the novel of the same title by Matt Ruff (LoveCraft Country, Bad Monkeys) is embedded with the racist horrors of the Jim Crow America, and integrates the supernatural and the absolute reality with struggling to survive and overcome the brutal hatred surrounding the 1950’s.
