Louis C.K. Ending ‘Horace And Pete’

Horace and Pete‘s is now closed for business. Louis C.K. has announced the end of his 10 episode passion project, which he wrote, directed and starred in. He made the announcement in a heartfelt email to his fans, in which he also thanked those who watched the show, and the cast and crew who helped bring the show to life.

“I wanted to say it is a singular experience to have done this show and a very very sad thing to be done doing it,” Louis C.K. wrote. “I loved telling that/those story(ies). I loved working in that (fake) bar with that crew for those ten weeks.”

The end of the show doesn’t come as a huge surprise considering that, in a recent interview with Howard Stern, he explained that he self-financed the $2 million series and took a loss on the project.

In his email to his fans, C.K. also touched on the odd and unorthodox rollout of the series.

“I chose to do the show this way, knowing that it would be a quiet and strange experiment and that only a few of us would take part in this stage of it, that just ended,” he said. “The creating, unfolding and watching of the show, one episode at a time, from nothing. I am grateful to all of you that took this trip with me the way that you did, not knowing what you were getting, how much you were getting or how it would all feel.”

Horace and Pete’s first episode premiered without warning on January 30th, with episodes being released weekly up until the last episode which was released on April 2nd. All episodes are exclusively available on his site, with prices ranging from $2-$5 or $31 for the enitre season.

The dramedy series, kind of like a darkly comedic take on Cheers, centered on an Irish bar, the staff and the patrons that come and go. It featured many recognizable faces along with C.K. including Steve Buscemi, Edie Falco, Alan Alda, Steven Wright, Kurt Metzger and Jessica Lange.

Though it is sad to see the series end, Louis C.K. has a lot going on. He is an executive producer and co-creator on the FX comedy series Baskets starring Zach Galifianakis, which just got picked up for a second season. He is working on a new comedy series for FX with frequent collaborator Pamela Adlon called Better Things, about an actress trying to balance working in Hollywood and being a single mom of three daughters. He can be heard lending his voice to a dog named Max in the upcoming animated film The Secret Life of Pets. And of course, he is going on tour with his stand-up this summer. Seems like there is no need to worry about being able to get your Louis fix.
