Lionsgate Television has just announced that it will be adapting the young adult series titled The Inheritance Games into a fully fledged TV series, to be produced by Temple Hill Entertainment, according to Deadline. The series is an extension of Temple Hill’s collaboration with Lionsgate Television for the upcoming Twilight Midnight Sun series for Netflix.

Deadline reports Jenniffer Lynn Barnes (Naturals, Inheritance Games) originally wrote the first book back in 2002, which turned into a sensation, with the series selling over 6 million copies worldwide during its lifetime, even reaching the title of New York Times bestseller.

According to Deadline, the original plot of the book centers around Avery Grambs, a penniless and orphaned 17-year-old high schooler, who creates a plan to have a better future. Survive high school, get a scholarship to climb out of poverty, and then dip out. However, the winds of fate changed her plan one day when she found out that she was the heiress to billionaire Hawthorne House after his death, leaving her his entire fortune. However, Avery does not know why she has become his heir, nor of any connection between the two. However, as per his will, she must move into the Hawthorne household, a house filled with secrets, puzzles, riddles, and codes, and every room has been tampered with by the now-dead Hawthorne.  However, to add to the peril, the household is also occupied by the rest of the Hawthorne family, who were left with nothing after the man’s death, creating a dangerous enemy, leaving Avery in great peril and a situation where whoever wins gets to keep it all.

According to Deadline, Bernes will have some control over the creative control of the show, to ensure a faithful adaptation of the show, taking on a role as a producer for the show.

So far it appears the adaptation of the series will be in good hands, as the fact that not only will the creator be involved to ensure a faithful adaptation, but both Lionsgate and Temple Hill, have a lot of history of adapting young adult novels previously, however mostly in film format, but there is still a lot of faith that the series will be developped well under their leadership. And a final aspect that may help the popularity of the upcoming show is the rising popularity of young adult novel adaptations once more, such as the hit The Summer I Turned Pretty on Amazon Prime.

A release date for the show has not been announced yet, nor have any streaming platforms announced their partnership to release the show as of the writing of this article; however, the fact that many other Lionsgate productions have been released on multiple streaming platforms such as Paramount+ and Amazon Prime, lends credence to the idea that a partnership could be announced soon.
