Showtime and Paramount+ recently announced the new actors joining the cast of A Gentleman in Moscow via Deadline. The show stars Ewan McGregor (Star Wars, Doctor Sleep) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Kate, Birds of Prey) as the protagonists of the ensemble drama being produced by Paramount in association with eOne.
The actors joining the cast are Leah Harvey (Foundation, Search and Destroy); Paul Ready (Motherland, The Dig); Anastasia Hille (A Spy Among Friends, The Ipcress File); Fehinti Balogun (Kinked, The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself); Johnny Harris (Medici, Try: Fall of a City); Dee Ahluwalia (Consent, How to be a Person); John Heffernan (Becoming Elizabeth, The Banishing), Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Northern Comfort, Trapped); Alexa Goodall (The Long Shadow, The Devil’s Hour); and Lyès Salem (Pour la France, Final Cut).
The limited series is based on Amor Towles’ (Rules of Civility, The Lincoln Highway) bestselling novel. The story is about Count Alexander Rostov, played by McGregor, who finds himself on the wrong side of history in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. Instead of being executed, Rostov is banished by the Soviet tribunal to the attic room in the luxurious Hotel Metropol, with a threat of death hanging over his head if he ever steps outside again. He spends the next years watching Russian history happen outside the hotel. His extra free time leads him to discover the extensive world of emotional discovery. He begins building a new life inside the Hotel Metropol, where he finds the true value of friendship, family, and love. Winstead has been cast as Anna Urbanova who is described as a glamorous, independent, and self-made film actress at the height of her popularity.
According to Deadline, Harvey will be playing Marina, a hotel chambermaid and single mother. Ready will star as the sensitive former prince Petrov, a friend of the Count. Harris will portray Osip, a conflicted secret police officer. Goodall will play Nina, the unlikely young friend of the Count. Heffernan will star as Bishop, the bloodless bureaucrat. Salem stars as Audrey the Maître d’ of the Hotel Metroil’s Boyarsky restaurant. Haraldsson will be playing Emily, the head chef, and irascible genius. Ahluwalia plays the bartender Audrius, the one helping achieve the copious drinking that occurs at the hotel. Balogun will portray the Count’s best friend from university Mishka, who is also in love with his sister. Hille stars as Olga, Anna’s dresser and confidante.
A Gentleman in Moscow is still in pre-production and no estimated release date has been revealed by Showtime.
