‘UnPrisoned’ Becomes Onyx Collective’s Most-Watched Hulu Premiere With Series Debut

According to Deadline, Kerry Washington’s (Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder) comedy series, UnPrisoned, has debuted as Onyx Collective’s most-watched premiere on Hulu ever and the most-watched scripted Hulu Original series of 2023. The series premiered on March 10. It comes from Onyx Collective and is produced by ABC Signature.

Onyx Collective is a premium content brand that curates programming from creators of color.

UnPrisoned is the first Onyx Collective comedy series and is inspired by creator Tracy McMillan’s (Family or Fiancé, Ready for Love) life. It follows a messy, perfectionist single mom and relationship therapist, Paige Alexander, played by Washington. Delroy Lindo plays Edwin Alexander (The Good Fight, Most Wanted), Paige’s dad who turns things around in their lives’ after getting out of prison and moving in with Paige and her teenaged son, Finn, played by Faly Rakotohavana (Secret Society of Second-Born Royals, Nightmare Cinema).

It also stars Marque Richardson (Dear White People, Tell Me Your Secrets) as Mal Kennedy and Jordyn McIntosh (Emancipation, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry) as Little Paige. The series is executive produced by showrunner Yvette Lee Bowser (Living Single, For Your Love), Pilar Savone (Django Unchained, American Son) for Simpson Street production company, Kevin Bray (The Patient, Succession), Joy Gorman Wettels (Adult World, The Meddler), Jen Braeden (Awkward, Girlboss), Washington, McMillan, and Lindo.

All eight episodes of UnPrisoned are streaming on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America, and everywhere else on Disney+.
