According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Land of the Lost reboot is in the works at Netflix. Netflix has partnered with Legendary TV as they are in the early stages of developing a reboot of the 1970s cult classic series. Sid (The Bugaloos, The Kroft Supershow) and Marty Krofft (H.R Pufnstuf, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters), who developed the original series, as well as Marty’s daughter Deanna Krofft Pope (Mondays with Marty, Mutt & Stuff), reportedly will produce the project. Netflix and Legendary TV declined comment as of now, but the reboot is just at the start of its development.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Land of the Lost is a series that ran from 1974 to 1976 during Saturday mornings on NBC. The series followed Rick Marshall played by Spencer Milligan (The Photographer, The Bionic Woman) and his kids Will played by Wesley Eure (Days of Our Lives, Dragon Tales) and Holly played by Kathy Coleman (Coffee Breaks, Canaan Land) as they explored the mysterious land, befriending a humanoid boy named Cha-Ka played by Phillip Paley (Beach Balls, The Last Page of Summer).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, although the series had a short run, it achieved a cult following which led to the 1991 remake. The first remake aired for two seasons on ABC, and a 2009 feature film starring Will Ferrell (Blades of Glory, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy), Danny McBride (Pineapple Express, Your Highness) and Anna Friel (The Girlfriend Experience, Locked In) and loosely based on the series was developed.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Television’s current slate includes Dune: Prophecy at HBO, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters at Apple TV+ and the animated Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft at Netflix as well as Tomb Raider and Pacific Rim live-action series and an adaptation of Girls and Their Horses with Nicole Kidman (The Perfect Couple, Big Little Lies) — all in development at Amazon.
