Kristen Wiig Leaves Apple Comedy Due To ‘Wonder Woman 2’ Scheduling Conflict

Kristen Wiig leaves Apple comedy series due to a scheduling conflict with shooting for Wonder Woman 2. Wiig plays the villain Cheetah in the superhero flick.

The Apple comedy series was suppose to be Wiig’s return to TV after seven seasons on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, where she was a series regular from 2005-2012. Wiig earned three supporting actress in a comedy Emmy nominations while on the series. Wiig has since focused on feature films such as Bridesmaids, Downsizing, Ghostbusters, Despicable Me 3 and more.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy series is now on hold as producers need to regroup after the news. Recasting is still an option since the company picked up the project with a 10-episode order. Sources say Apple believes in the script and is hopeful that the series will move forward. This is the first scripted comedy series to be ordered on Apple.

Colleen McGuinness from 30 Rock created the new Apple series and will be the showrunner for the comedy. The untitled comedy series was inspired by Curtis Sittenfeld’s upcoming short-story collection called You Think It, I’ll Say It. Reese Witherspoon will be executive producing alongside McGuiness, Wiig and Lauren Neustadter. Sittenfeld will be a consulting producer for the series.
