‘Key & Peele’ To End After This Season

Key & Peele will finish its fifth season as its last on Comedy Central.

The Emmy nominated sketch comedy show is coming to end not through cancellation but choice. Co-creator and star Keegan-Michael Key said this to The Wrapwho broke the news, “This is our final season – and it’s not because of Comedy Central, it’s us,” said Key. “It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie.”

That doesn’t mean this is the last time you’ll see the comedians together. Key adds, “I’m thinking we could do that every three years – take a year, go bang out a movie. That’s the plan right now.”

The fifth season of the show began on July 8 and will continue to air new episodes on Comedy Central until September. All of the remaining episodes have been filmed, according to The Wrap.

Co-creator and star Jordan Peele confirmed the news on Twitter and sent out a message for fans. His tweets about the show’s end can be viewed below.

The show is up for an Emmy in the Outstanding Variety Sketch Series category and Key was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series along with five other nominations.

Fans of the duo can expect to see more from them soon. Key talked to The Wrap about future projects saying, “There will be Key & Peele productions coming up. We’re doing the reboot of ‘Police Academy,’ and there’s a TV show in the works that we might do for Comedy Central. There’s lots of stuff we have cooking up.”

The remaining new episodes of the popular show will air on Comedy Central on Wednesday nights.
