Kevin Smith to Direct ‘Sam & Twitch’ for BBC America

Kevin Smith has a new television project that’s in the works. According to ComicBook.com, Smith will be directing and developing Sam & Twitch for BBC America.

The show will be a police procedural set in the world of the Spawn comics that hail from Todd McFarlane.

BBC America President and General Manager Sarah Barnett commented on Smith’s involvement with the project, saying “Smith is attached to write, direct and executive produce a series based on the Sam And Twitch comic book series for us. They were originally introduced in Spawn, and it’s Todd McFarlane’s comic book series about these big-city homicide detectives who face a series of super grisly crimes that are connected to the occult. It’s kind of frightening and sort of gallows humor. It’s, again, procedural, but in a very modern, contemporary way. So each episode is closed ended, although there are certain character-serialized aspects to the storytelling.”

Currently, there’s not a lot of details about the show as it’s in the early stages of development. The project is in good hands with Smith, who has an impressive resume of writing, directing, producing and acting.

As for the characters of Sam and Twitch, they are two fictional members of the New York Police Department and are homicide detectives. Sam is described as the brawn of the duo, while Twitch is described as the brains.

Coming up for Smith, he is directing his second episode of Supergirl. Previously, he’s directed two episodes of The Flash, which aired during the last television season.

A lot of the films that Smith has worked on feature him as a writer, director, producer and actor. Some of his famous movies include Clerks, Mallrats, Jersey Girl and Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

He’s also appeared in movies that he didn’t have any involvement in behind the scenes, such as Scream 3, Daredevil, Catch and Release and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, in which he voiced one of the Stormtroopers in a cameo role.
