Kevin James to Star in Racecar Comedy ‘The Crew’ on Netflix

Kevin James is no stranger to sitcoms, he played Doug Heffernan on The King of Queens for almost ten years and Kevin on Kevin Can Wait for two years. James is ready to return to the small screen once again in the NASCAR inspired series The Crew. James is self-described NASCAR enthusiast who says he goes to at least one race a year. The Crew was picked up by Netflix with a straight to series order. The Crew will be a multi-camera comedy. An episode count has not been revealed yet.

The Crew is about a NASCAR crew chief, played by James, who has to readjust to new challenges in his career after his boss steps down and passes the team along to his daughter. The daughter brings new members to the crew in hopes of modernizing the team. James’ character struggles to connect to the tech-reliant millennials.

The Crew is written by Jeff Lowell (Two and Half Men, The Ranch) who will also showrun and executive produce the series. James is also credited as an executive producer on The Crew.  James’ manager Jeff Sussman will executive produce with Paul Blart: Mall Cop producer Todd Garner. Netflix has a producing partnership with NASCAR. Managing Director of Content Development, Matt Summers (Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!), and Chief Digital Officer, Tim Clark, are set to oversee the production on behalf of NASCAR.

James recently filmed another Netflix produced comedy, Hubie Halloween. The film is an Adam Sandler (The Wedding Singer, Grown Ups) project that recently wrapped production. Hubie Halloween is a murder mystery about an eccentric volunteer watchman who finds himself in the middle of a real, dangerous mystery. The film stars Sandler, James, Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), Steve Buscemi (The Death of Stalin), and Rob Schneider (Real Rob).
