Angela Kang on Lauren Cohan’s Fate with AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’: “We’ve Got Ideas for Maggie”

Since the cancellation of Whiskey Cavalier, fans of The Walking Dead have been eyeing Maggie (Lauren Cohan) return in season 10. The zombie drama teased the newest addition to the team when they introduced Dante (Juan Cardenas) who had a connection to Maggie in the comics. “He’s actually a love interest of Maggie,” explained Kang. “But in our world, the context is a little different, and he will play an important role in the story in Alexandria. So we’re excited about that.”

After Rick’s death and a six-year time jump, Maggie’s absence from Hilltop and the show is noticeable. After countless questions and wonderings of “where is Maggie?”, it was soon revealed that she, and her son Hershel, packed up and met up with Georgie in order to create a thriving, and larger, community.

The character’s departure from the show left a door open for the actress to come back someday. “We’re trying to work on it,” said Kang. “We’ve got ideas [for Maggie], so hopefully.”

Back in April, Cohan was seeing the positive side of returning. “I don’t ever feel like it’s [in the past],” said Cohan. “It’s the weirdest thing and I would never know it until I was in this situation, [but] I think about Maggie all the time. She’s always, like, inside of me. This sounds weird, but she is. It’s partly knowing the story is continuing, the story is unfinished. It’s partly having active conversations all the time with Angela and with Scott.”

Season 10 had begun filming a few months ago, but fans share the hope that they will get to see Maggie again, maybe not in the upcoming season, but in the near future. “We’ll see what happens,” said Cohan. “There is definitely a lot of exciting ways [for it to happen]. And the universe, I’m still very much a part of it. And it’s not over. So, for me, that’s exciting. And I get so excited because we talk about different possibilities.”

The Walking Dead returns with an all-new season on October 6 on AMC.
