According to TVline, Marvel chief Kevin Feige (Iron Man, The Marvels) offered an official update on the Wonder Man television series. The series, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, The Matrix Resurrections) has reportedly wrapped filming.
TVLine reports that Feige was a guest on the Official Marvel Podcast where he discussed Marvel’s desire and commitment to exploring different types of stories. “Sometimes they’ll hit, sometimes they won’t,” he acknowledged, “but if you stop trying, that is when you atrophy and the whole thing falls in on itself.”
When asked about new projects, he replied. “We have a show coming up that we’ve talked very little about called Wonder Man, that I won’t talk much about today either except to say it’s extremely different than anything we’ve done before.”
According to CBR, Wonder Man is a hero introduced in Marvel comics in 1964. While the character has had a wide berth of powers, his most set-in-stone powers are enhanced strength and stamina. In some issues, he’s been known to have the power to manipulate energy and transform it into an energy-based form.
According to CBR, The character was set to appear in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. In the character’s planned Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, he was played by Nathan Fillion (The Rookie, Firefly). Fillion appeared in pictures on set that he personally released. However, all Wonder Man scenes were cut from the film. The film’s director, James Gunn (The Suicide Squad, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vo. 3), said that he could potentially return in future Marvel Cinematic Universe content.
The Wonder Man series is created by Andrew Guest (Hope And Faith, 30 Rock) and Destin Daniel Cretton (The Glass Castle, Shang Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings). Alongside Abdul-Mateen, Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island, Schindler’s List), Demetrius Grosse (Straight Outta Compton, Banshee), and Ed Harris (The Truman Show, Gone Baby Gone) also star.
