According to Deadline, Ken Jeong (Crazy Rich Asians, Animal Control) teased the script for the upcoming Community movie that is in the works. Jeong will be reprising his role from the series as the Spanish teacher Ben Chang in the film. In an interview with TV Insider, Jeong spoke about reading the script and how it made him feel.
“It made me emotional, and just brought me right back, and that’s all I’m legally allowed to say,” Jeong told TV Insider.
Community follows a former lawyer who has to attend community college when it is discovered that his Bachelor’s degree is fake. When he starts, he tries to get with one of his fellow students, and in trying, he starts a Spanish study group with some interesting characters. The series ran for 110 episodes and six seasons from 2009 to 2015 on NBC.
As per Deadline, the Community movie is currently being reworked, and it’s unknown when filming will commence.
“There is a script, there is a plan. We just don’t know when it will happen. Once that’s agreed upon, it’ll be magical and real emotional. Imagining what filming will look like,” Jeong said, “I think being on set experiencing that again will be so gratifying. Words can’t even express.
Co-star Yvette Nicole Brown (Repo Man, Avengers: End Game) recently told The Wrap back in October that the film was still “going to happen. I think it’s being reworked, but we all have read an entire, full script. So a script exists. I heard that we have a big credit in LA that gives you money to make the film. So we’re definitely going to be doing it in LA.”
Other than Jeong and Brown, the series cast included Joel McHale (The Bear), Danny Pudi (Mythic Quest), Donald Glover (Atlanta), Chevy Chase (Caddyshack), Gillian Jacobs (The Box), Alison Brie (Glow) and Jim Rash (Sky High).
Community is available to stream on Peacock.
