Sherlock Holmes actress Kelly Reilly is set to star in the drama from Amy Holden Jones, IIene Chaiken and Bryan Singer.
Reilly will play a neuroscientist in the thirteen-episode drama, explains the Hollywood Reporter. The series centers on a seemingly fortunate and famed neuroscientist Elizabeth Black who secretly struggles with mental illness–one of many secrets she keeps from her fiancé and family.
The role marks Reilly’s first stateside series television part, following a string of features including playing Mary Watson in the Robert Downey Jr. “Sherlock Holmes” movies as well as roles in British TV’s Above Suspicion and Wonderful You.
Black Box was written by Amy Holden Jones (“Mystic Pizza”, “Indecent Proposal”) with My Week With Marilyn’s Simon Curtis on board to direct. Anne Thomopoulos, Bryan Singer, Ilene Chaiken and Oly Obst will executive produce. Chaiken is set to serve as show-runner.
ABC picked up Black Box straight to series with a thirteen-episode order in June. The drama marks the first small-screen foray for independent production company Bold Films, with Sierra Engine tackling international distribution. WME packaged and presold it internationally before ABC picked up the project.
A premiere date for Black Box has not yet been determined, though the Hollywood Reporter explains that the project is looking at a January release.
