Comicbook.com reports that main lead Kathryn Hahn (Wandavision, Bad Moms) from Disney Marvel Studios’ Agatha All Along shared what inspired the show. In an interview with Total Film, Hahn said the show’s inspirations are titles such as Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic.
Hahn explained, via Comicbook.com, that “There’s some Nancy Myers in there, there is, [as] for witches, some of the friendship of Hocus Pocus – the deep sweet friendships – and also the terror of Practical Magic, of stuff like Poltergeist or E.T.” It seems like the show will give off Halloween vibes, so Spooky Season might come early!
Her co-star Aubrey Plaza (Criminal Minds, The White Lotus) explained her thoughts and inspirations for the series via Comicbook.com. “The Craft is one that I felt was really totally coming through. That movie gets hardcore scary, and what’s cool about The Craft is one [thing] about Agatha. It really rides the line. There are times when it’s really funny and almost has this campy quality, but then there are times it just gets really dark and grounded and scary.”
According to Comicbook.com, Agatha All Along focuses on the events in Wandavision that were left off for the infamous Agatha Harkness. After a goth teenager breaks Agatha free from a spell, she realizes that she is without powers. When the same teen begs her to bring him to the infamous Witches’ Road, he and Agatha create a coven to go on this magical journey. The Witches’ Road is a mystical place that, after difficult trials, rewards a witch with what they are missing the most.
Alongside Plaza and Hahn, according to Comicbook.com, the main cast of the show includes Joe Locke (Heartstopper), Sasheer Zamata (Home Economics, Woke), Maria Dizzia (School Spirits, Christine), Ali Ahn (Raising Dion, The Diplomat) and Paul Adelstein (Prison Break, Return To Zero). Recurring stars are Miles Gutierrez-Riley (The Wilds, Smile Two), Debra Jo Rupp (Friends, Better with You), Patti LuPone (Company, Penny Dreadful), and many others.
Agatha All Along will be streaming on Disney+ on Sept. 18.
