According to TVLine, Kaley Cuoco’s (The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Charmed) love for true crime is about to take thrilling turn once again this fall. The highly anticipated second season of the Peacock comedy series Based on a True Story, starring Cuoco and Chris Messina (The Mindy Project, Sharp Objects, Devil), is set to premiere on Thursday, November 21, TVLine has exclusively revealed.
This eight-episode season picks up with Cuoco and Messina’s characters, Ava and Nathan Bartlett, navigating life as new parents three months after the events of season one. Ava has returned to her career as a real estate agent, while Nathan is flourishing as a private tennis coach. However, their domestic bliss is soon disrupted as a fresh wave of murders reignites Ava’s true crime obsession.
As mentioned by TVLine, Ava becomes increasingly convinced that Matt, the enigmatic antagonist from season one portrayed by Tom Bateman (Behind Your Eyes, Cold Pursuit, Murder On The Orient Express), is behind these new crimes. Despite her efforts to remain objective, the tension mounts when danger comes perilously close to home.
In addition to Cuoco and Messina, the show features Liana Liberato (The Best Of Me, Trust, Erased) as Tory and Melissa Fumero (Gossip Girl, Ant-Man, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Ava’s new friend, Drew. According to TVLine, the cast is set to bring a mix of dark humor, suspense, and action, which made the first season a hit with viewers.
Cuoco and Messina not only star in the series but also serve as executive producers. They are joined by a creative team that includes new showrunner Annie Weisman (Almost Family, Physical).
According to TVLine, Weisman expressed her excitement about the new season, saying, “I first discovered Based on a True Story as a fan of Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, and I instantly loved the show’s addictive blend of dark humor, pulpy action, and relatable characters. In season two, we’ve built on those exciting themes while introducing propulsive new character dynamics and a forward-moving murder mystery.”
With its compelling blend of crime, comedy, and drama, the second season of Based on a True Story promises to be even more gripping and entertaining than the first. Fans can mark their calendars for November 21 as Ava and Nathan Bartlett dive back into a world where fiction and reality blur in the most unexpected ways.
