Justin Lin and Alex Kurtzman Producing New Robin Hood Drama for CBS

Robin Hood is swinging back to the small screen. A story by the Hollywood Reporter revealed that Alex Kurtzman (Sleepy HollowScorpion) and Justin Lin (True DetectiveStar Trek: Beyond) are producing a series for CBS that will feature a modern day version of the classic literary hero.

The show will be based on the book A Burglar’s Guide to the City by Geoff Manaugh. The story follows a group thieves led by an architect with “a troubled past”. Using their combined skills, the thieves steal from the rich and give to the poor, in true Robin Hood fashion.

Paul Grellong (ScorpionRevolution) will work as a writer on the series, and Lin is on board to direct the pilot episode. No casting has been announced yet.

Robin Hood is the latest character from classic English literature to be brought to the small screen. In a similar vein, NBC is working on adapting Oliver Twist into a “contemporary female-driven procedural”, while Fox is working on a police drama based on the legends of King Arthur. Does this mean we’ll be seeing a Beowulf sitcom in the near future? One can only hope.
