Justin Kirk is making his return to cable with FX’s newest drama pilot, Deadline reports.
Titled Tyrant, the series focuses on an American family that finds itself in the midst of a chaotic Middle Eastern nation. Kirk’s role is that of John Tucker, “a sexy, decadent and mysterious American diplomat with a hidden agenda.”
No stranger to television, Kirk is best known for his work on Showtime’s Weeds opposite Mary-Louise Parker. He received critical acclaim for his performance in HBO’s Angels in America miniseries, and recently played the lead in NBC’s short-lived Animal Practice.
Other actors currently cast in the project include Moran Atias, Ashraf Barhom, Salim Daw, Sibylla Deen and Mehdi Dehbi.
Tyrant will be executive produced by Six Feet Under’s Craig Wright as well as Homeland’s Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff. David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2) will direct the pilot episode.
