According to Deadline, Juliana Baggot (Pure, The Pretend Wife) and her son Finneas Scott (For Her, Sleep With Sadie) sold their story “Except You” to Fox Entertainment Studios. The story is expected to be developed as an hour-long drama.
Molly Milstein (Welcome to Wrexham, Spirited) and Kevin Hill (Young Rock, The Titan Games) are heading development through their studio Maximum Effort. The two will also executive produce the series with Baggot and Scott through Mildred’s Moving Picture Show. Baggot set up Mildred’s Moving Picture show in 2023, running it with her editor Brendan Deneen (Morbius: The Living Vampire, The Chrysalis) and Scott.
Maximum Effort, founded by Ryan Reynolds (Free Guy, The Proposal), is producing Deadpool and Wolverine, which is set to be in theatres on July 26, as well as John Krasinski’s (The Office, A Quiet Place) IT and the upcoming Legendary film Animal Friends and Apple’s Mayday.
As Deadline Puts it “Except You follows Erica, who can’t help but fall in love with everyone she meets. When her ambitious ex, an FBI agent who used Erica’s infatuations to get closer to criminals, goes rogue, she’ll have to help the Feds track down her ex, one mortifying crush at a time.”
Baggott has written several short stories that are being adapted for the screen. She collaborated with Scott on a story titled Backwards, which was bought by Netflix and is set to be directed by Shawn Levy (Real Street, The Adam Project). She also wrote a horror story titled Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit, which is being adapted by Melanie Toast (Shut In, The River At Night). Another Baggott story, Welcome to Oxhead, is being developed by Paramount TV and is being executive produced by Michelle Purple (The Sinner, The Fast And The Furious) and Jessica Biel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Blade: Trinity) through Iron Ocean Productions. The film adaptation of a novel Baggott co-wrote with Steve Almond (My Life In Heavy Metal, Against Football), Which Brings Me To You, was released by Decal starring Nat Wolff (Paper Towns, Behaving Badly) and Lucy Hale (Puppy Love, Truth Or Dare).
