Now that he’s finished with The Hunger Games movies, it looks like Josh Hutcherson will be going from Hunger Games victor to a janitor at a lab. Variety reported The Hunger Games star will be starring in an upcoming comedy series on Hulu titled Future Man.
Future Man is a dystopian comedy produced by Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg. Hulu gave the pilot order back in August, making it the online streaming service’s first deal with Sony Picture Television for an original series.
Hutcherson will play the character of Josh Futterman, who is the world’s most unlikely hero. Futterman works a dead-end job as a janitor at a research facility. He has no self-esteem or social skills, which means he has no love life, and he lives at home with his parents. He’s really only good at one thing: video games. One game in particular he excels at, Cybergeddon, is set in a dystopian future where he plays a character named Future Man. After beating the final level, he gets a visit from characters from the game who tell him the video game was all a test to prepare him to help them save the world. Suddenly Futterman has to go from zero to hero in order to save the human race from extinction at the hands of an alien invasion.
Kyle Hunter and Ariel Schaffer penned the script and will executive produce alongside Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg who will also direct the pilot. The project comes from Sony Pictures Television, and Hutcherson is also listed as a producer.
Hutcherson appeared most recently in Mockingjay: Part 2, the final installment in The Hunger Games franchise. He also will appear in two upcoming films, The Disaster Artist and The Long Home, which are both directed by James Franco.
