According to Deadline, Josh Brener (Silicon Valley) revealed his thoughts on what possibly happened to his character in HBO’s The Last of Us. Brener played an ABC talk show host named Murray in the early episodes of season one.
In a flashback years before the virus began wiping out humanity, Murray jokingly questioned the claims made by Dr. Neuman regarding whether fungus could someday wipe out mankind. After Dr. Neuman described how fungi could infiltrate the body, acting as parasites and taking control of bodily functions as a host, Murray hysterically calls out for a commercial break.
When Deadline asked the actor’s thoughts on whether his character could pop up again, Brener said, “This is the mind of Craig Mazin!” alluding to anything being possible from the creator of the series.
“My wife tells him (recently), ‘Josh’s parents are excited about how he comes back in the second season’ And Craig goes ‘……Nope!’” Breyer explained to Deadline. However, Berner hasn’t lost hope.
“If everyone can become re-animated, it doesn’t matter how dead his body is!” Brener said via Deadline.
The second season of The Last Of Us is set to focus on the second video game installment, The Last Of Us: Part Two. New faces to the cast include Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You, Rosaline), Danny Ramirez (Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Top Gun: Maverick), Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Schitt’s Creek), and Tati Gabrielle (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Mortal Kombat 2).
Deadline previously spoke to series star, Pedro Pascal (Narcos, The Mandalorian), about the series’ narrative.
“Does it deviate from the game? That’s a good question.” Pascal stated. “I think that they’re always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have, and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format like a television show. But I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anybody, and the truth is, I don’t actually have all of the information as of yet.”
A premiere date for season two of The Last of Us has yet to be announced. Season one is available to stream on Max and purchase digitally and on DVD.
