Jonathan Banks Joins ‘Breaking Bad’ Prequel ‘Better Call Saul’

Jonathan Banks joins Bob Odenkirk in Breaking Bad prequel that focuses on lawyer Saul Goodman.

Jonathan Banks, who played Michael Ehrmantraut on the AMC hit, has signed for a role in Better Call Saul. The series will center on Saul Goodman’s evolution (Bob Odenkirk) before he became the attorney of Walter White.

Banks was a regular in Breaking Bad and played the role of Michael Ehrmantraut, Saul’s trusted private investigator.

Joel Stillerman, the AMC executive vice president of programming told The Wrap that Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad is excited about rethinking the traditional boundaries of a drama.

“You know, taking an inherently funny character and surprising people in both directions,” Stillerman said. “It’s an hour show, it will be a drama, but it will also be very funny, as Bob’s character was on that show.”

Better Call Saul is slated to debut on AMC in November.
