According to Deadline, Jon Stewart (Big Daddy, Irresistible) has signed on once again for another year of hosting and executive producing Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. This is his third deal that will last him through December 2026. This is not a surprise as it was telegraphed in a recent live interview Stewart did with The New Yorker’s David Remnick last month, where he told his friend, “We’re working on staying.”
As per Deadline, Stewart hosts The Daily Show on Mondays with Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians, M3GAN), Jordan Klepper (Klepper, Jordan Klepper Solves Guns), Michael Kosta (Crowd Goes Wild, The Comment Section) and Desi Lydic (Awkward, The League), as well as Josh Johnson (Genies, The Comedy Lineup), hosting the rest of the nights. He returned at the start of 2024 and signed a one-year deal at this time last year. Recently, the talk show has been performing well when it comes to ratings and scored its best haul of Emmy nominations this year, with Lydic winning.
According to Deadline, although the show has been performing well, there have been many talks about the show’s future. This is due to Paramount’s decision to unceremoniously cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report), of which Stewart is an executive producer.
As per Deadline, in a recent interview with The New Yorker, Stewart said, “Paramount has already done things that I’m upset about. But then if I had integrity, maybe I would stand up and go, ‘I’m out.’ Or maybe the integrity thing to do would be to stay in it and keep fighting in the foxhole.” Days after Firing Colbert , Stewart told his employer to “go f*ck yourself” and joked that after a summer hiatus, didn’t know whether new owners Skydance, led by David Ellison, would “let us back in the building.”
“Jon Stewart continues to elevate the genre he created. His return is an ongoing commitment to the incisive comedy and sharp commentary that define The Daily Show,” said Ari Pearce, Head of Comedy Central via Deadline. “The renewal is a win for audiences, for Comedy Central and for all our programming partners. We’re proud to support Jon and the extraordinary news team.”
