Comedy Central’s The Daily Show will continue its tradition of “traveling for the national party conventions in presidential election years” as the nation ramps up for the 2024 election, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Daily Show will film in Milwaukee and Chicago for the Republican and Democratic conventions, with Jon Stewart (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Faculty) hosting the live shows.
The Hollywood Reporter continues that the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the show’s travel for the 2020 election year, but The Daily Show has traveled to convention cities during election years starting in 2000.
Since Stewart’s return in February 2024, The Daily Show has seen “a sizable upswing in ratings” via The Hollywood Reporter, projecting a successful set of shows for the upcoming travel. Stewart is set to host the live show in Milwaukee for the Republican convention on July 18th and in Chicago for the Democratic convention on August 22nd, the last nights of each convention.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that before the live shows at the end of the week, the news team for The Daily Show will perform the Monday through Wednesday shows within the same convention week as part of the “Indecision 2024” coverage segment. These episodes will be taped a couple of hours before the usual 11 p.m. ET/PT airing. During the tour, the show will be filmed near the sites of each convention, with July 15th to the 18th scheduled at the Marcus Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee and August 19th to the 22nd set at the Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture in the north side of Chicago.
In an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner and executive producer Jen Flanz (The Daily Show, The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear) commented on the upcoming tour by saying, “It’s the most consequential and important election we’ve had in a generation but so was 2000. And, so was 2008. And, definitely 2016. And, of course, 2020. So yes, all of these elections are really important to the fate of the nation — each one in its own way. We’re already 87,209 jokes deep into covering this one. And if I’m lucky, we’ll be covering the 2028 election with our show and amazing cast, staff and crew.”
These special The Daily Show episodes will be available on Comedy Central from July 15th to the 18th and August 19th to the 22nd. Public tickets for the live shows can be reserved ahead of time.
